SUMMARY:WCQR2024 Pre-Conference Panel Discussion ‘Conducting Ethically-Responsible Research Among Marginalized Groups on Sensitive Topics’
DESCRIPTION:September 13th\, 2023 | Online (Free)\n\n\n\n10:00 AM (WEST/UTC+01:00 – London\, Lisbon\, Dublin…)5:00 PM (UTC+08:00 – Shanghai\, Beijing\, Singapore\, Manila\, Perth…)7:00 PM (UTC+10:00 – Canberra\, Sydney\, Melbourne…)see the corresponding time in your timezone > \n\n\n\nDuration: 60 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Panel Discussion is part of the pre-WCQR2024 program. The 8th World Conference on Qualitative Research will be held from 23 to 25 January 2024 in São Miguel – Azores (Portugal)\, Johannesburg (South Africa)\, and online. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the highlights of my (Arceli) journey as a qualitative researcher was my encounter with teen mothers\, who due to their cultural context suffered from social stigma. During the last phase of our data collection\, our research team held a photo exhibit participated by community leaders and members. As one of our participants alighted from a vehicle and walked toward the venue\, a team member pulled me and whispered\, “Look! She walks like a queen.” This presentation focuses on the potential of qualitative research to empower marginalized groups\, particularly those who are entangled in socially-sensitive phenomena. The exploration of this empowerment theme is anchored on ethical frameworks and strategies set on the intersectionality of religion\, class\, gender\, and culture. Our discussion of theoretical concepts is supported by the empirical study that we conducted on the cohabitation of couples who are members of a Christian church in the Philippines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscussants:\n\n\n\nPavel Zubkov\, PhD\n\n\n\nPavel Zubkov\, PhD\, is an Applied Theology Department chair and a Doctor of Missiology / Intercultural Studies Program Director at the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies in the Philippines. He teaches applied theology research and writing classes and serves as a seminary methodologist. He comes from a quantitative orientation but has extended his interest to qualitative research. He is a coeditor of Qualitative Research for Practical Theology and contributed several chapters in The SAGE Handbook of Qualitative Research. He is the president of the Asian Qualitative Research Association. \n\n\n\nArceli Rosario\, PhD\n\n\n\nArceli Rosario is the president of the Adventist University of the Philippines. She served as president of the Asian Qualitative Research Association and is presently the president of the Adventist Human-Subject Research Association in the Asian region. Her research interests are women leadership and women issues. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 992 3729 9279 | Password: 048650
